Q: WATERMARKING: WHAT IS IT AND HOW DO I GET RID OF IT?
A: Watermarking" involves digitally embedding into an image a symbol that
identifies the copyright holder. If you register on our site, we can provide
unwatermarked
comping versions of the images.
Why must you register? Our photographers require that we protect their work from
copyright infringement
and will not allow us to show you unwatermarked versions unless and until you tell us
who you are by registering on our site.
More on Watermarking
If the purpose of the watermark is only to make it possible to determine who owns an
image, the mark will usually be small and be located near an edge of the image -- and
may not even be visible at all. On the other hand, if part of the purpose of the
watermark is to prevent the image from being used illegally, the watermark will be placed
prominently in the photo where it can't be cropped out.

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 makes it a
criminal offense to remove watermarks meant to protect copyright.
